It's worth a walk

Remote Teton River, Fly, 2 days, 14 fish

One of the guys at the fly shop gave us a hot tip and we drove to a remote point on the Teton River, north of Driggs, trundling across dirt roads and across farm fields. It's about a 700 foot descent into the canyon. On the first day, I tripped two vertical feet from the river, took a header, fell on my four-weight, and snapped it just above the cork.

That was what one would call a bummer.

Fiona and I shared her fly rod and took turns casting in a pool full of whitefish. There's practically no pressure here, I assume, because of the prohibitive access. Fiona caught three (including a nice little cutty) and I caught two.

The second day, we came massively more prepared. I brought a backpack and we broke the rods down into sections and stowed them in their cases. We brought lunch and liters of water. We were out for a total of five or six hours. I caught 12 fish in total, including one lunker of a cutthroat. Probably 18-20 inches. And Fiona caught something around 10 total.

What worked: Pat's rubber legs and size 16 bead heads (e.g. Purple Psycho Prince). We also tried the Bitch Creek Nymph with some success as well.,
